• These compounds occur also in unicellular organisms, and may act as signaling molecules, but there is no consensus if, in this case, they can be called hormones.
  توجد هذه المركّبات أيضًا في الكائنات الحيّة وحيدة الخلايا، وقد تعمل كجزيئات للإشارة، ولكن في هذه الحالة ليس هناك إجماع إذا كان بالإمكان تسميتها بالهرمونات.
• Examples of these substances are phosgene (the most lethal chemical weapon employed in WWI), which has been used as a chemical weapon but which is also a precursor in the manufacture of many legitimate organic compounds (e.g. pharmaceutical agents and many common pesticides), and triethanolamine, used in the manufacture of nitrogen mustard but also commonly used in toiletries and detergents.
  ومن هذه المواد نذكر الفوسجين (وهو السلاح الكيميائي الأكثر فتكًا المستخدم في الحرب العالمية الأولى) الذي يتم استخدامه كسلاحٍ كيميائي لكنّه في الوقت عينه سلف كيميائي في تصنيع عددٍ كبير من المركّبات العضوية الشرعية (ومنها العوامل الصيدلانية وعدد كبير من مبيدات الحشرات الشائعة) وثلاثي ايثانولامين المستخدم في صناعة الخردل النتروجيني لكن أيضًا في مستلزمات التجميل والنظافة بشكلٍ كبير.
