A properly designed DSS is an interactive software-based system intended to help decision makers compile useful information from a combination of raw data, documents, and personal knowledge, or business models to identify and solve problems and make decisions. نظام دعم القرار المصمم على نحو سليم هو برمجيات تفاعلية قائمة على نظام يهدف إلى مساعدة صانعي القرار على تجميع معلومات مفيدة على شكل مزيج من البيانات الخام، والوثائق، والمعرفة الشخصية، أو النماذج التجارية لتحديد وحل المشاكل واتخاذ القرارات.

To combat overuse of Head CT Scans yielding negative intracranial hemorrhage, which unnecessarily expose patients to radiation and increase time in the hospital and cost of the visit, multiple clinical decision support rules have been developed to help clinicians weigh the option to scan a patient with a head injury. للتقليل من الاستخدام الزائد للتصوير المقطعي المحوسب للرأس الذي يؤدي إلى حدوث نزيف داخل القحف, والذي يعرض المريض لإشعاعات لا داعي لها, ويؤدي إلى زيادة فترة المكوث في المستشفى وتكلفة العلاج, تطورت العديد من قواعد دعم القرارات السريرية لمساعدة الأطباء على تقييم أهمية إجراء تصوير لمريض مصاب بإصابة الرأس.
Salem has also served as a lecturer of computer engineering, information systems and computer science – in the areas of artificial intelligence and expert systems, software engineering, management information systems, software project management, decision support systems and electronic commerce – at ITI, Cairo University’s Faculty of Economics and Political Sciences, the Arab Academy for Sciences and Technology, the International Academy for Media Science, Sixth of October University and Misr International University. كما عمل محاضرا في هندسة الحاسب الآلي ونظم المعلومات وعلوم الحاسب الآلي – في مجالات الذكاء الاصطناعي والنظم الخبيرة وهندسة البرمجيات وإدارة نظم المعلومات، وكذلك في إدارة مشاريع البرمجيات ونظم دعم القرار والتجارة الإلكترونية – وذلك في معهد تكنولوجيا المعلومات بكلية الاقتصاد والعلوم السياسية في جامعة القاهرة، وفي الأكاديمية العربية للعلوم والتكنولوجيا، والأكاديمية الدولية لعلوم الإعلام، وجامعة السادس من أكتوبر، وجامعة مصر الدولية.
