In the early 2000s, the area has seen many changes such as the creation of the University of Bahrain main campus and Bahrain International Circuit, the home of Formula One's Bahrain Grand Prix. في بداية عقد 2000 شهدت المنطقة العديد من التغييرات مثل إنشاء الحرم الجامعي الرئيسي لجامعة البحرين وحلبة البحرين الدولية ومطار الصخير الدولي.
The building of the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir was started in 2002 with high domestic interest about the project as it gave a future to the next generation of Bahraini racers. بدأ بناء حلبة البحرين الدولية في الصخير في عام 2002 مع فائدة محلية عالية عن المشروع لأنه أعطى المستقبل للجيل القادم من المتسابقين البحرينيين.

In April 2011 Bahrain honored Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah by giving him the historic Ajrab sword of Imam Turki bin Abdullah and the Sheikh Isa bin Salman Al-Khalifa Medal at ceremony at Al-Sakhir Palace. في أبريل 2011 كرمت البحرين خادم الحرمين الشريفين الملك عبد الله بإعطائه السيف الأجرب التاريخي الإمام تركي بن عبد الله ووسام الشيخ عيسى بن سلمان آل خليفة في احتفال أقيم في قصر الصخير.
