The Bancroft copy of the Gettysburg Address was written out by President Lincoln in February 1864 at the request of George Bancroft, the famed historian and former Secretary of the Navy, whose comprehensive ten-volume History of the United States later led him to be known as the "father of American History". نسخة بانكروفت لخطاب جيتيسبيرغ حُررت في فبراير 1864 على يد الرئيس لينكولن تلبية لطلب جورج بانكروفت المؤرخ المشهور والأمين العام السابق فالبحريةوالذي ذيع صيته فيما بعد كأبٍ للتاريخ الأمريكي بعد إصداره لتاريخ الولايات المتحدة مجلد في عشرة مجلدات.
Cintas' properties were claimed by the Castro government after the Cuban Revolution in 1959, but Cintas, who died in 1957, willed the Gettysburg Address to the American people, provided it was kept at the White House, to where it was transferred in 1959. ودُعت ممتلكات سينتاس لحيازتها ومصادرتها من قبل حكومة فيدل كاسترو بعد الثورة الكوبية في عام 1959، ولكن سينتاس الذي وافته المنية في 1957 كان قد أوصى أن يكون خطاب جيتيسبيرغ ملكًا للشعب الأمريكي، مضيفًا إلى أن يتم حفظها في البيت الأبيض حيث نقلت إلى هناك عام 1959.
Lincoln's address followed the oration by Edward Everett, who subsequently included a copy of the Gettysburg Address in his 1864 book about the event (Address of the Hon.
