'Abdu'l-Bahá stipulated that an essential architectural character of a House of Worship be that it requires to have a nine-sided circular shape (Nonagon). وضح حضرة عبد البهاء في كتاباته أن الطابع المعماري الأساسي لمشرق الأذكار يتطلب أن يكون له شكل دائري ذو تسعة جوانب (تساعي).
The truth is that you come into a house of worship with information you should not have, an outrageous accusation, no legal warrant, and threaten me. الحقيقة هي أنك أتيت إلى دار العبادة بمعلومات لا ينبغي أن تكون تملكها إتهامات باطلة، بدون مذكرة و تقوم بتهديدي
The Bahá'í laws emphasize that the spirit of the House of Worship must be a gathering place where people of all religions may worship God without denominational restrictions. وتؤكد التعاليم البهائيةعلى روح مشرق الأذكار بحيث يجب أن يكون مكان تجتمع فيه الناس من جميع الأديان للتعبد لله دون أي قيود مذهبية.
Over 350 other religious associations has also been registered, but they do not enjoy the right to build houses of worship or to perform rites of baptism, marriage, or burial. كما وتم تسجيل أكثر من 350 جمعية دينية أخرى، لكنها لا تتمتع بالحق في بناء دور العبادة أو لأداء طقوس المعمودية أو الزواج أو الدفن.
Bahá'í literature directs that a House of Worship should be built in each city and town, and emphasizes that its doors must be open to all regardless of religion, or any other distinction. تشير الكتابات البهائية إلى أن مشرق الأذكار يجب أن يبنى في كل مدينة وبلدة، ويؤكد أن أبوابه يجب أن تكون مفتوحة للجميع بغض النظر عن الدين، أو أي تمييز آخر.
Bahá'í scripture also states that no pictures, statues or images be displayed within the House of Worship and no pulpits or altars be incorporated as an architectural feature (readers may stand behind simple portable lecture stands). وقد نصت الكتابات البهائية ايضا على انه لا يجوز عرض صور أو تماثيل داخل مشرق الأذكار ولم تدرج المنابر أو المذبح كميزة معمارية (يمكن للقّراء الوقوف وراء منضدة بسيطة).
By the Winter of 1906 Louis Bourgeois, later architect of the Bahá'í House of Worship in Wilmette, Illinois, and his wife had joined the religion after having "come into association with the Baha'i Faith through Marie Watson and Mary Hanford Ford." وبحلول شتاء عام 1906، انضم لويس بورجيواز، المهندس المعماري السابق لدار العبادة البهائية في ويلميت، إلينوي، وزوجته إلى الدين بعد أن "انضم إلى الإيمان البهائي من خلال ماري واتسون وماري هانفورد فورد."
