  وبحسب ما ذكر المؤرخ الإسرائيلي موريس، فإن البلدات والقرى التي تم قصفها لم تكن مستعدة نفسيًا ولا دفاعيًا لضربات جوية، حيث قصفت القوات الجوية الإسرائيلية بيت جبرين في 19 أكتوبر مما أدى إلى فرار سكانها خوفًا وذعرًا.
