• This began with a March operation against the Mehdi Army in Basra, which led to fighting in Shia areas up and down the country, especially in the Sadr City district of Baghdad.

• February 27 – At least 42 people were killed as a motorcycle rigged with explosives detonated in Baghdad's Sadr City and militants targeted mostly Shi'ite neighbourhoods around the country.

• The crowds of Iraqis stretched from the Sadr City slum in northeast Baghdad to the square around 5 km (3.1 mi) away, where protesters burned an effigy featuring the face of U.S. President George W. Bush.
  انتقلت جموع العراقيين من أحياء مدينة الصدر في شمال شرق بغداد إلى الساحة على بعد 5 كيلومتر (3,1 ميل)، حيث أحرق متظاهرون دمية فيها وجه الرئيس الأمريكي جورج دبليو بوش.
• Although the protests in Saddam City had been put down, new protests began to flare across Shiite majority Southern Iraq, with 20 protesters being killed by security forces on the 21, with another 250 arrested across Iraq.
  وعلى رغم اخماد قوات الحرس الجمهور لتظاهرات مدينة الصدر فقد بدات احتجاجات في المناطق ذات الغالبية الشيعية في جنوب العراق اسفرت عن مقتل مايقرب 21 شخصاً و اعتفال 250 اخرين .
• Militiamen also conducted raids against Coalition forces outside Sadr City in other parts of Baghdad, like on June 4, 2004, when a Mahdi Army ambush on a US National Guard patrol on Palestine Street, near Sadr City, left five US soldiers dead.
  شنت غارات من قبل جيش المهدي ضد قوات التحالف خارج مدينة الصدر وفي أجزاء أخرى من بغداد، مثل حدث يوم 4 يونيو عام 2004، عندما نصب جيش المهدي كمينا لقوات الحرس الوطني الاميركي في شارع فلسطين، بالقرب من مدينة الصدر، حيث أدى الهجوم إلى مصرع خمسة جنود أمريكيين.
