In UN Security Council Resolution 1737 of 26 December 2006, the Council imposed a series of sanctions on Iran for its non-compliance with the earlier Security Council resolution deciding that Iran suspend enrichment-related activities without delay. وفي قرار مجلس الأمن الدولي رقم 1737 بيوم 26 ديسمبر عام 2006، فرض المجلس سلسلة من العقوبات على إيران لعدم امتثالها لقرار مجلس الأمن في وقت سابق، وطالب بإتخاذ قرار إيران بتعليق الانشطة المتعلقة بتخصيب اليورانيوم بدون تأخير.
Iran ceased its implementation of the Additional Protocol in 2006, and also ceased all other cooperation with the IAEA beyond what Iran acknowledges it is required to provide under its safeguards agreement, after the IAEA Board of Governors decided, in February 2006, to report Iran's safeguards non-compliance to the UN Security Council. تخلّت إيران عن تنفيذها للبروتوكول الإضافي في عام 2006، وتوقفت أيضاً عن جميع أشكال التعاون الأخرى مع وكالة الطاقة الذرية متجاوزةً ما تقره إيران بما هو مطلوب منها لتوفير ضمانات أمنية بموجب الإتفاق الخاص بها، بعد أن قرر مجلس محافظي الوكالة، في فبراير 2006، أن تقدم إيران ضمانات لعدم امتثالها لمجلس الأمن الدولي.
