A breakthrough in astronomy was made by Polish astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus (1473–1543) when, in 1543, he gave strong arguments for the heliocentric model of the Solar system, ostensibly as a means to render tables charting planetary motion more accurate and to simplify their production. قدم الفلكي البولندي نيكولاس كوبرنيكوس (1473–1543) طفرة كبيرة في مجال الفلك، ففي عام 1543 اقترح نموذجا جديدا للنظام الشمسي، واعطى تخطيط دقيق لحركة الكواكب.
He used this method to calculate the eccentricity of the Sun's orbit and the annual motion of the apogee, and so did Tycho Brahe and Copernicus shortly afterwards, though Taqi al-Din's values were more accurate, due to his observational clock and other more accurate instruments. واستخدم هذه الطريقة ليحسب مركز البؤرة لمدار الشمس والحركة السنوية للأرض عند الحضيض، وكذلك فعل نفس الشيء تيخو براهي وكوبرنيكس، إلا أن قيم تقي الدين هي الأكثر دقة، بسبب استخدامه ساعته المشاهدة والكثير من الآلات الدقيقة الأخرى.
