• The Hanafi school of thought of Sunnism is the most popular, with Shiism of Imami and Ismaili denominations predominating in the Pamir plateau and the western Tian Shan mountains (almost exclusively Ismailis), while boasting to a large minority population in the Zarafshan river valley, from Samarkand to Bukhara (almost exclusively Imamis).
  المذهب الحنفي السني هو الأكثر شعبية، مع التشيع الإمامية والطوائف الإسماعيلية التي بشكل أغلب بهضبة بامير و جبال تيان شان الغربي (على وجه الحصر تقريبا الإسماعيلية)، في حين يضم أقلية كبيرة في وادي نهر زارافشان، من سمرقند إلى بخارى (على وجه الحصر تقريبا الإمامية).
• This juncture of the Syrian war is characterized by the Revolutionary Guard managing the battle space by liaising across hundreds of Shiite, Alawite and Ismaili (and some allied Christian) militias characterized by loyalty ultimately to the Revolutionary Guard which facilitates their funding either directly or through surrogates such as the Syrian government.

• As of March 2015 opposition activists have accused the government of attempting to stoke sectarian tentions in eastern Hama and Salamiyah, the burial place of the Ismaili sect's founder Ismail bin Jaafar, with recruitment drives aimed at Ismailis for pro-government militias for the purpose of setting up checkpoints to harass, rob and kill Sunnis.
  اعتبارًا من مارس 2015 اتهم نشطاء المعارضة الحكومة بمحاولة تأجيج توترات طائفية في شرق حماة والسلمية وهي مكان دفن مؤسس الطائفة الإسماعيلية إسماعيل بن جعفر إضافة إلى حملات التجنيد التي تستهدف الإسماعيليين لضمّهم إلى الميليشيات الموالية للحكومة من أجل إعداد حواجز تفتيش لمضايقة وسرقة وقتل السنة.
