Actual tests of a Tesla steam turbine at the Westinghouse works showed a steam rate of 38 pounds per horsepower-hour, corresponding to a turbine efficiency in the range of 20%, while contemporary steam turbines could often achieve turbine efficiencies of well over 50%. أسفرت نتائج الاختبارات الفعلية لتربينة تسلا البخارية في وستنجهاوس عن معدل سريان للبخار يبلغ 38 رطل لكل وحدة قدرة حصانية في الساعة, عند كفاءةللتربينة حوالى 20% تقريبا, بينما تحقق التوربينات التقليدية دائما، كفاءة تزيد عن 50%.
The acquisition of a feasible AC motor gave Westinghouse a key patent for his system, but the financial strain of buying up patents and hiring the engineers needed to build it meant development of Tesla's motor had to be put on hold for a while. كان استحواذ ويستنغهاوس على حقوق براءة اختراع المحرك ذي التيار المتردد حجر الزاوية لبناء نظام كامل يعمل بالتيار المتردد، إلا أن الضغوط المالية نتيجة شراء براءات الاختراعات وتوظيف المهندسين لتنفيذه نتج عنها تأخير تطوير محرك تسلا لفترة.
