Buisson and Foldès suggested "that the special sensitivity of the lower anterior vaginal wall could be explained by pressure and movement of clitoris's root during a vaginal penetration and subsequent perineal contraction". و قد اقترح الباحثان بويسون و فولدييه "أن الحساسيّة الخاصة للجدار المهبليّ الأماميّ السفليّ يمكن شرحها بضغط و حركة جذر البظر خلال الإيلاج المهبليّ و الانكماش العجانيّ اللاحق".
The perineal sponge is erogenous tissue encompassing a large number of nerve endings, and can, therefore, be stimulated through the back wall of the vagina or the top wall of the rectum. تُعتبر الإسفنجة العجانية منطقة مثيرة للشهوة الجنسية بسبب كمية النهايات العصبية التي تتوفر عليها وبالتالي يُمكن أن تحفز هذه المنطقة من خلال الجدار الخلفي للمهبل كما يُمكن أن تُحفزَ من أعلى جدار المستقيم.
