Grand Forks native George H. After graduating, he was commissioned in the 12th Infantry at Fort Sully in the Dakota territory and two months later was sent to Company G, Ninth Infantry at Camp Bowie in Arizona. بعد تخرجه، كُلف لأداء خدمته العسكرية في قوات المشاة الثانية عشرة في فورت سولي في إقليم داكوتا وبعد شهرين تم إرساله إلى وحدة قوات المشاة في كامب باوي في ولاية أريزونا.
