  اشتهر إقليدس بكتابه العناصر وهو الكتاب الأكثر تأثيرا في تاريخ الرياضيات، وقد استخدم هذا الكتاب في تدريس الرياضيات (وخصوصا الهندسة) منذ بدايات نشره قديما حتى نهاية القرن الـ19 وبداية القرن الـ20.
