• The laws were motivated by Norwegian nationalism and also by religious differences between Sami and the Norwegian population (Sami practicing animism and polytheism, while the Lutheran Church of Norway was the official state religion).

• Norwegians are registered at baptism as members of the Church of Norway, and many remain members to be able to use services such as baptism, confirmation, marriage and burial, rites which have strong cultural standing in Norway.
  ويسجل النرويجيين عند التعميد كأعضاء في كنيسة النرويج، يحافظ العديدون على عضويتهم في الكنائس التابعة للدولة لكي يستطيعوا استخدام الخدمات مثل التعميد وسر التثبيت والزواج والدفن والطقوس التي تمتلك مكانة ثقافية قويَّة في النرويج.
• The council's work is organised in issue-specific committees, such as a hilal committee that works to advise Norwegian Muslims on how the Islamic calendar should be interpreted in Norway, a Halal committee that oversees ritual slaughtering, in accordance with animal welfare laws, at designated Norwegian meat processing plants mainly owned by Nortura, and a burial committee, which collaborates with Norwegian Church Authorities to establish and maintain Muslim cemeteries.
  ينظَّم عمل المجلس في لجان تختص بقضايا محددة مثل لجنة الأهِلّة التي تعطي المشورة حول كيفية تفسير التقويم الهجري في النرويج، ولجنة الطعام الحلال التي تشرف على طقوس الذبح الإسلامي وفقا لقوانين رعاية الحيوان، ولجنة الدفن التي تتعاون مع سلطات الكنيسة النرويجية لإنشاء المقابر الإسلامية والحفاظ عليها.
