  في شهر آيار من نفس العام أطلق الجيش العراقي عملية (زئير الأسد) وسميت فيما بعد (عملية أم الربيعين) لتطهير مدينة الموصل والمناطق المحيطة بها في محافظة نينوى.

  كما استولى الجيش العراقي على منطقة هدبا خلال النهار، بينما أعلن يار الله أن جهاز مكافحة الارهاب استولت على مجمع حكومي يضم محافظة نينوى ومباني المجلس.

  ونقلت الوكالة عن محمد إبراهيم رئيس اللجنة الامنية في مجلس محافظة نينوى قوله ان 1500 من اعضاء المجموعة كانوا يرسخون بالقرب من مسجد نوري الكبير.

  وكانت محافظة نينوى هي الفيصل في اقرار الدستور من عدمه ولكن محافظة نينوى صوتت بلا للدستور العراقي بنسبة 55%، وهي اقل من نسبة الثلثين اللازمة لرفض الدستور.

  في 12 أبريل، أعلنت قيادة عمليات نينوى أن المستشفيات في محافظة نينوى استقبلت أكثر من 500 جثة لمقاتلي داعش، خلال العمليات العسكرية جنوب المحافظة، ولا سيما في القيارة.

• 15 soldiers were killed in a pre-dawn assault on an army camp guarding an oil pipeline near Hamam al-Alil in the north of Nineveh Province, one of the most violent parts of Iraq.
  قتل 15 جنديا في هجوم قبل الفجر على معسكر للجيش يقوم بتأمين خط لأنابيب النفط بالقرب من حمام العليل في شمال محافظة نينوى وهى من أكثر المناطق التى شهدت أعمل عنف شديدة في العراق.
