The following year, Fadl visited Abu Sa'id, the son and successor of the Ilkhanid ruler Öljaitü, to give him a present of Arabian horses in Baghdad. في السنة التالية، زار الفضل أبو سعيد، ابن وخلفية الحاكم الإلخاني محمد أولجايتو، لإعطائه خيولاً عربية هدية في بغداد.
In Baghdad, he found Abu Sa'id, the last Mongol ruler of the unified Ilkhanate, leaving the city and heading north with a large retinue. عثر ابن بطوطة على أبو سعيد في بغداد وهو آخر حاكم مغولي لوحدة ايلخانان، وغادر المدينة مع حاشية كبيرة متجهًا إلى الشمال.
On his way to Basra he passed through the Strait of Hormuz, where he learned that Abu Sa'id, last ruler of the Ilkhanate Dynasty had died in Persia. وفي طريقه نحو البصرة عبَر مضيق هرمز، حيث علم بأن أبو سعيد (آخر حكام سلالة إيلخانان) مات في بلاد فارس.
Marching from Tashkent to Samarkand with the support of Abu'l-Khayr Khan, Abu Sa'id Mirza defeated Abdallah Mirza and executed him in 1451, taking his place on the throne. تقدّم أبو سعيد ميرزا من طشقند إلى سمرقند بدعم من أبو الخير خان، وهزم أبو سعيد ميرزا عبد الله ميرزا وأعدمه في عام 1451، حيث أخذ مكانه على العرش.

During his relatively brief reign, a revolt created by Sultan Muhammad's brother Ala-ud-Daulah Mirza bin Baysonqor did not seriously threaten him, but a rising initiated by Abu Sa'id Mirza, whose home base, at the time, was in Bukhara, proved to be fatal. خلال فترة حكمه القصيرة نسبيا، قام علاء الدولة بن بايسنقر شقيق السلطان محمد بثورة لم تهدده بشكل خطير، ولكن كان بداية صعود لأبو سعيد ميرزا، التي كانت قاعدته الرئيسية في ذلك الوقت في بخارى، أثبت أنه قاتله.
Sultan Mahmud left his government to Herat with the support of Qambar Ali Beg, Governor of Hisar, who had accompanied Abu Sa'id had returned to Iraq; Mahmud came to this city with an army on 16 March but approaching Prince Hussain Baykara, another branch of the Timurid, with the help of the Uzbeks, had to remove it and Baykara Sultan proclaimed the 24th of March of 1469. غادر السلطان محمود حكومته إلى هراة بدعم من قمر علي بيك -حاكم حصار الذي رافق أبو سعيد إلى العراق وكان قد عاد -؛ وقد جاء محمود إلى هذه المدينة بجيش في 16 مارس ولكن كان يقترب الأمير التيموري حسين بيقارا بمساعدة الأوزبكيين لإزاحته، وتم أعلان بايقارا سلطان في 24 مارس عام 1469.
