البارافين

  إذ صنعت شمعتان من البارافين من شمع البارافين الطبيعي الموجود في الزيت وهذه الشموع أنارت قاعة المحاضرة في المعهد الملكي والتي ألقاها ليون بليفير.
• Since frozen tissue sections don’t go through any fixation procedures, and therefore, the DNA, RNA, and protein in frozen tissues retain their native characteristics much more than in paraffin embedded tissues.
  وحيث إن النسيج المتجمد لا يمر بأي من عمليات التثبيت تلك، ومن ثم يحتفظ الدنا والرنا والبروتين بخصائصه الطبيعية أكثر من الأنسجة المنطمرة في البارافين.

  وقد تم استخدام شمع البارافين لصنع الطعام المزيف حتى منتصف الثمانينات؛ بسبب تلاشي ألوانها عند تعرضها للحرارة أو أشعة الشمس، وفي وقت لاحق استبدل المصنعين شمع البارافين إلى الفينيل كلوريد والتي هي أصبحت بشكل أبدي تقريبا.
