السد العالي

• On 26 July, Nasser gave a historic speech announcing the nationalisation of the Suez Canal Company, under his "Egyptionization" policy, and whose revenues would be used to finance the construction of the High Dam, which was completed in January 1968.
  في 26 يوليو ألقى جمال عبد الناصر خطابا تاريخيا أعلن فيه عن تأميم شركة قناة السويس في إطار سياسة التأميم التي ستستخدم إيراداتها لتمويل بناء السد العالي الذي اكتمل في يناير 1968.
• The construction of the Aswan High Dam across the Nile River in the 1960s reduced the inflow of freshwater and nutrient-rich silt from the Nile into the Eastern Mediterranean, making conditions there even more like the Red Sea and worsening the impact of the invasive species.
  وقد سبب بناء السد العالي في أسوان الذي يقطع نهر النيل في الستينات إلى خفض تدفق المياه العذبة والطمي الغنية بالعناصر المغذية من النيل إلى شرق المتوسط مما يجعل ظروف تأثير الكائنات المجتاحة تتفاقم.
• This would reduce the current evaporation of more than 10 billion cubic meter per year, but it would also reduce the ability of the Aswan High Dam to produce hydropower to the tune of a 100 MW loss of generating capacity for a 3 m reduction of the water level.
  وهذا من شأنه تقليل التبخر الحالي لأكثر من 10 مليارات متر مكعب سنويا ، ولكن سيكون من شأنه أيضاً أن يقلل من قدرة السد العالي في أسوان لإنتاج الطاقة الكهرومائية لتصل قيمة الخسارة لـ100ميجاوات بسبب انخفاض مستوى المياه بالسد بمقدار 3م.
