وعد بلفور

• The French position in regard to Palestine and the wider Syria region during the lead up to the Balfour Declaration was largely dictated by the terms of the Sykes-Picot Agreement, and was complicated from 23 November 1915 by increasing French awareness of the British discussions with the Sherif of Mecca.
  تحدَّد الوضع الفرنسيّ فيما يتعلّق بفلسطين و منطقة سوريا خلال الفترة التي سبقت إعلان وعد بلفور من خلال اتفاقيّة سايكس بيكو، و تعقَّد الموقف بدءاً من 23 نوفمبر من خلال معرفة فرنسا بوجود مناقشات بريطانيّة مع شريف مكّة.
• In light of the existing McMahon–Hussein correspondence, but in the wake of the seemingly competing Balfour Declaration for the Zionists, as well as the publication weeks later by the Bolsheviks of the older and previously secret Sykes–Picot Agreement with the Russians and French, seven Syrian notables in Cairo, from the newly formed Syrian Party of Unity (Hizb al-Ittibad as-Suri), issued a memorandum requesting some clarification from the British Government, including a "guarantee of the ultimate independence of Arabia".
  في ضوء مراسلات حسين مكماهون الحالية، ولكن في ظل يقظة المتنافسين حول وعد بلفور للصهاينة، بالإضافة إلى إعلان البلاشفة بعد ذلك بعدة أسابيع عن اتفاقية سايكس بيكو السرية السابقة مع الروس والفرنسيين، انتقل سبعة وجهاء سوريين إلى القاهرة لتقديم مذكرة طالبين فيها توضيحا أكثر من الحكومة البريطانية والتي تتضمن "ضمانا للاستقلال التام للعرب".
