• A basal thermometer is more reliable and accurate than a simple glass thermometer since glass thermometers are only accurate to .2 degrees Fahrenheit whereas a basal thermometer is generally accurate to .1 degrees Fahrenheit.
  مقياس الحرارة القاعدي هو أكثر موثوقية ودقة من الترمومتر الزجاجي البسيط وهذا لأن ترمومترات الزجاج تكون دقيقة فقط إلى 0.2 درجة فهرنهايت في حين أن ميزان الحرارة القاعدي يكون دقيقا بشكل عام إلى 0.1 درجة فهرنهايت.
• A distinction must be maintained between the stimulus (an external thing that can be directly measured, such as with a thermometer) and the person's or animal's resulting pain perception (an internal, subjective thing that can sometimes be measured indirectly, such as with a visual analog scale).
  يجب التمييز هنا بين التحفيز (شيء خارجي يمكن قياسه مباشرة، بواسطة مقياس الحرارة مثلا) وإدراك الألم الداخلي لشخص أو حيوان (وهو أمر داخلي ذاتي يمكن قياسه أحيانا بشكل غير مباشر، كما هو الحال في مقياس النظير البصري).
