  وهناك طريقة أخرى لايقاف الالتهاب وهي عن طريق تلقّي المضادات الحيوية تحت اللّثة (مثل مينوسيكلين) أو الخضوع لجراحة لثويّة للوصول إلى عمق الجيوب وتغيير عمقه ليصبح 3مم أو أقل وبهذا يصبح المريض قادر على تنظيفه في المنزل بالطريقة السليمة أو باستخدام فرشاة الأسنان.
