Barlow claims that after Jacquard's father died, Jacquard started a figure-weaving business but failed and lost all his wealth. ويذكر بارلو أنه بعد وفاة والد جاكار، شرع جاكار في عمل تجاري للنسيج، لكنه فشل وخسر كل ثروته.

However, in Jacquard weaving, the repeating series of multicoloured warp and weft threads can be used to create colours that are optically blended – i.e., the human eye apprehends the threads’ combination of values as a single colour. بمعنى أن العين البشرية تدرك مزيج قيم الخيوط كلون واحد.
Jacquard's occupation at this time is problematic because by 1780 most silk weavers did not work independently; instead, they worked for wages from silk merchants, and Jacquard was not registered as a silk merchant in Lyon. كانت مهنة جاكار في تلك الفترة مثيرة للمشكلات، إذ أنه بحلول عام 1780م لم يعد يعمل معظم ناسجي الحرير يعملون بشكل مستقل؛ بل أصبحوا يعملون بأجور عند تجار الحرير، ولم يكن جاكار مسجلاً كتاجر حرير في ليون.
Although his invention was fiercely opposed by the silk-weavers, who feared that its introduction, owing to the saving of labour, would deprive them of their livelihood, its advantages secured its general adoption, and by 1812 there were 11,000 Jacquard looms in use in France. ورغم أن اختراعه قابله نساجو الحرير بمعارضة عنيفة، نظرًا لخوفهم من أن يؤدي طرحه في الأسواق إلى حرمانهم من مصدر رزقهم بسبب توفيره للأيدي العاملة، فقد أدت مزاياه إلى أمن اعتماده بشكل عام، وبحلول عام 1812م كان هناك 11000 مشغل نول جاكار يتم استخدامها في فرنسا.
