In the late 5th century the Byzantine historian Zosimus declared the knowledge of how to build them to have been long since forgotten. وفي أواخر القرن الخامس، صرَّح المؤرخ البيزنطي زوسيموس بأن طريقة بناء تلك القوادس قد اندثرت منذ فترة طويلة.
Fuat Sezgin, a historian of Islamic science, found 15 manuscripts of Zozimos in six libraries, at Tehran, Cairo, Istanbul, Gotha, Dublin and Rampur. سيزجين قد أوجد 15 من مخطوطات زوسيموس في 6 مكتبات مختلفة، في طهران ، والقاهرة، واسطنبول، وغوتا، ودبلن ورامبور.
In a contrary account, Zosimus claims he was assassinated, after appointing one of his relatives to an important command in Syria. أما المؤرخ زوسيموس فيدَّعي في روايةً متناقضة أن تاسيتس كان قد اُغتِيلَ، بعد تعيين أحد أقاربه لمنصب قياديّ هام في مقاطعة سوريا.
Arabic translations of texts by Zosimos were discovered in 1995 in a copy of the book Keys of Mercy and Secrets of Wisdom by Ibn Al-Hassan Ibn Ali Al-Tughra'i', a Persian alchemist. تم اكتشاف الترجمات العربية للنصوص التي خطها زوسيموس في عام 1995 في نسخة من كتاب 'مفاتيح الرحمة وأسرار الحكمة' بواسطة بن حسن بن علي الطغرائي الفارسي الخيميائي.ولكن للأسف، كانت الترجمة ناقصة وعلى ما يبدو غير حرفية.
Michèle Mertens analyzed what is known about those manuscripts in her translation of Zozimos, concluding that the Arabic tradition seems extremely rich and promising, and regretting the difficulty of access to these materials until translated editions are available. ميشيل ميرتنز يحلل ما هو معروف عن تلك المخطوطات في ترجمتها بواسطة زوسيموس ، وخلصت إلى أن التقاليد العربية غنية للغاية وتبدو واعدة، ونأسف لصعوبة الحصول على هذه المواد، مرة واحدة لا الترجمة أو أى طبعة هي متوافرة.
The famous index of Arabic books, Kitab al-Fihrist by Ibn Al-Nadim, mentions earlier translations of four books by Zosimos, however due to inconsistency in transliteration, these texts were attributed to names "Thosimos", "Dosimos" and "Rimos"; also it is possible that two of them are translations of the same book. مؤشر الكتب الشهير من كتاب الفهرست العربية من قبل ابن النديم ، يذكر أن الترجمات السابقة مكونة من أربعة كتب بواسطة زوسيموس ، ولكن بسبب التضارب في الترجمة، فقد نسبت هذه النصوص إلى أسماء "ثوسيموس "،" دوسيموس "و" ريموس ".
