A 2015 DNA analysis indicates the species is more closely related to the pipits than the white-eyes, and some taxonomic authorities now tend to regard it as being a member of the family Motacillidae within the clade containing pipits in the genus Anthus. ويشير تحليل الحمض النووي في عام 2015 ان هذا النوع له علاقه وثيقة بنوع الجشنة أكثر من نوع العيون البيضاء، كما أن بعض الجهات التصنيفية تميل الآن إلى اعتباره عضو في عائلة الموتاسيليد من النوع الفرعي الذي يحتوي على جنس الجشنة.
