• The second attempt to reintegrate the Duchy of Schleswig into the Danish kingdom, initiated by the signing by King Christian IX of Denmark of the November Constitution in 1863, was seen as a violation of the London Protocol and led to the Second Schleswig War of 1864.

• Olderog comes from Bredenbek in Schleswig-Holstein, northern Germany, and studied computer science, mathematics and logic at the University of Kiel, where he received his doctorate in 1981 supervised by Prof. Hans Langmaack on Hoare-style characterization systems for ALGOL-like programming languages.

• The Federal Army system functioned during various conflicts of the 19th century, such as the First Schleswig War from 1848–50 but by the time of the Second Schleswig War of 1864, tension had grown between the main powers of the confederation, the Austrian Empire and the Kingdom of Prussia and the German Confederation was dissolved after the Austro-Prussian War of 1866.
