On November 14, 2012, Dworkin received the Balzan Prize for Jurisprudence in Quirinale Palace, Rome, from the President of the Italian Republic. في 14 نوفمبر 2012، حصل على جائزة بلزان للفقه القانوني في روما، من رئيس الجمهورية الإيطالية.

In 2017 he received the Wolf Prize in Medicine and the Balzan Prize for Immunological Approaches in Cancer Therapy (this prize jointly with Robert D. The Balzan Prize was awarded "for his fundamental contributions to Jurisprudence, characterized by outstanding originality and clarity of thought in a continuing and fruitful interaction with ethical and political theories and with legal practices". وقد تم منحه الجائزة "لمساهماته الأساسية في الفقه القانوني، وتميزه بالوضوح في التفكير في تفاعل مستمر ومثمر مع النظريات الأخلاقية والسياسية والممارسات القانونية".
In 2003 he received the Balzan Prize for European History since 1900 "for his brilliant analysis of the troubled history of 20th century Europe and for his ability to combine in-depth historical research with great literary talent." وفي عام 2003 حصل هوبسباوم على جائزة بالزان للتاريخ الأوروبي منذ عام 1990 "لتحليله الرائع للتاريخ المضطرب لأوروبا القرن العشرين ولقدرته على الدمج بين البحث التاريخي العميق والموهبة الادبية العظيمة."
The assets behind the foundation were established by the Italian Eugenio Balzan (it) (1874–1953), a part-owner of Corriere della Sera who had invested his assets in Switzerland and in 1933 had left Italy in protest against fascism. أسس المؤسسة وساهم بأصولها الإيطالي أوجينيو بلزان (1874 ـ 1953)، الذي كان أحد مالكي جريدة كوريري ديلا سيرا، وكان قد استثمر أمواله في سويسرا، وهجر إيطاليا سنة 1933 احتجاجًا على النظام الفاشي.
